Patrick Dempsey stars as the prophet JEREMIAH in this original two-hour syndicated television mini-series.

JEREMIAH is a story of conflict within a man called upon by God to carry out an extremely difficult mission: To preach a return to reality, an abandonment of all dreams and hopes, and the destroying and tearing down of human illusions. It is a terrible mission, almost inhuman, but one that Jeremiah himself feels compelled to preach because, in a dream, an angel has told him that he is a Prophet chosen by God. But it also causes intense and detailed conflict within Jeremiah that arises between his hopes and personal desires. It begins when he receives the command, "Do not marry" - and must give up his love for Judith to do the will of God. Depressed and confused, he roams the streets of Jerusalem but sees it with new eyes, as it really is but as he had never seen it before - a city of devious and greedy merchants, idlers, petty criminals, prostitutes, and idolaters. As he falls asleep that night, Jeremiah has a vision that, in the name of God, forewarns the evil fate of all the inhabitants of the country for all they have done by abandoning Him. Though Jeremiah tries to refuse, it becomes clear that this is his life's mission. Risking his life, he attempts to spread the message throughout Jerusalem and the country that all must demolish the false to build the true. It is not a popular position, especially as Jeremiah himself does not always find it coherent with his own feelings. But as his prophecies begin to come true, and the city of Jerusalem attacked and destroyed, he states that the city will be rebuilt, "but next time it will also be rebuilt in the heart of man."

JEREMIAH is one of twelve mini-series produced under "THE BIBLE" umbrella.
