Ben Cross stars as the wise king SOLOMON in the syndicated television
four-hour mini-series.
SOLOMON is
one of the aging King David's sons, the one that David has decreed
will rule as king once David has died. On his deathbed, David explains
to Solomon why he has been chosen. He must complete an important task:
the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem, which will house and protect
the ancient Ark of the Covenant between God and the Israelites. He
tells his son to govern with authority and never lapse into weakness.
But Solomon questions his own ability - too weak and fearful a man
to carry out his task - and asks God for wisdom so that he may rule
God's people. God's response is that "I will give you the wisdom
of a clear and discerning mind. I will also give you what you have
not asked: riches and glory so that no other king shall compare with
you."
After seven years, the Temple is ready to be consecrated. The Ark of
the Covenant - the most sacred relic of the twelve tribes of Israel -
is secured in the Temple.
Soon after, the Queen
of Sheba comes to Jerusalem to "bathe in the wisdom" of King
Solomon. Solomon is struck by her beauty, and love blooms between them.
But neither can abandon their kingdom, so they decide to have a child
as the fruit of their love. Many Israelites complain that the King
is not leading his people, and begin to search for other gods to worship.
Religious disputes cause nearly violent conflicts, and with them the
beginning of the end of the twelve tribes of Israel.
SOLOMON is
one of twelve mini-series produced under "THE BIBLE" umbrella.
